Steady‐State Parallel Retreat Migration in River Bends With Noncohesive (Composite) Banks

چکیده

Abstract A substantial body of research has addressed the equilibrium cross‐sectional geometry straight noncohesive channels, along with bends having fixed outer banks. However, development a characteristic cross‐section during active migration been confounded by inaccurate treatment bank erosion processes. This analysis characterizes steady‐state migrating and associated rate for highly conceptualized case an infinite bend constant centerline radius lower banks consisting uniform‐sized grains mobilized as bedload. Analytical, numerical, field analyses are presented to rationally constrain obtain physically based equation dependent on following dimensionless groupings: excess Shields stress, flow depth curvature ratio, thickness grain size ratio. Migration is shown be dictated transverse sediment flux at thalweg due secondary flow, not slope in previous formulations developed from similar principles. Simple outward translation portion cross section achieved concurrent mass failure upper cohesive layer. Such cannot using linear shear formulation applied fluvial erosion. numerical model evolution developed; when Mackinaw River Illinois, it reveals that river behaves if critical stress considerably larger than indicated distribution. intended provide canonical basis comparison actual meander geometries.

Orthogonal drawings of series-parallel graphs with minimum bends

In an orthogonal drawing of a planar graph G, each vertex is drawn as a point, each edge is drawn as a sequence of alternate horizontal and vertical line segments, and any two edges do not cross except at their common end. A bend is a point where an edge changes its direction. A drawing of G is called an optimal orthogonal drawing if the number of bends is minimum among all orthogonal drawings ...

Discrete and Continuous E-Plane Bends in Parallel-Plate Waveguide

Discrete bends in the propagation direction of plane TEM waves can be achieved utilizing the Brewster angle at a planar interface between media of different uniform isotropic pennittivities. This paper extenda this to cases of multiple dielectric or nonuniform permittivity. The nonuniform case is a generali~tion of the Brewster-angle concept. This is also related to special log-spiral solutions...

Radar placement along banks of river

In this paper, we consider the Radar Placement and Power Assignment problem (RPPA) along a river. In this problem, a set of crucial points in the river are required to be monitored by a set of radars which are placed along the two banks. The goal is to choose the locations for the radars and assign powers to them such that all the crucial points are monitored and the total power is minimized. I...

WMMSE design of digital filter banks with specified composite response

A new method for designing uniform and nonuniform digital filter banks with a specified composite response is presented. The composite response of the filter bank can be met either exactly or to within a given tolerance. We focus on filter banks in which the individual filters are finite impulse response (FIR) digital filters of possibly nonequal length, although the new method is applicable ev...
